A study released by the Canadian Medical Association Journal, on July 5, 2011, has linked Pfizer, Inc.’s smoking cessation drug, Chantix, to serious cardiovascular problems such as congestive heart failure and stroke. The study revealed a 72% increased risk of serious cardiovascular problems for those who took Chantix compared to a placebo.  The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) stated, in June, 2011, that it would require new warnings on Chantix that reflected the increased risk of heart attacks when taken by those who already had a cardiovascular disease.
