Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis (NSF)

Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis Legal Claims

Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis is also known as NSF. On May 23,2007 the FDA required that the makers of the Gadolinium dye to add a Boxed Warning about NSF. This warning states:

*Exposure to Gadolinium dye increases the risk of NSF in patients with kidney disorders *NSF is a debiliting and sometimes fatal disease affecting the skin, muscle and internal organs * Avoid use of Gadolinium dye if possible *Screen patients for kidney function before use.

On December 22, 2006, the FDA issued a public health advisory about NSF which is a disease that is associated with a Gadolinium based contrast agent used in MRI or MRA tests. NSF occurs in people who undergo these scans and who have kidney disease, kidney failure or renal disease.

The signs of NSF are burning, itching, swelling, hardening and tightening of the skin; red or dark patches on the skin; yellow spots on the whites of the eyes; stiffness in joints with trouble moving or straightening the arms, hands, legs, or feet pain; pain deep in the hip bones or ribs; and muscle weakness.

If you underwent an MRI or MRA and you have any of these symptoms, contact your doctor. Gadolinium has been in use for many years. You may have had a MRI or MRA recently or years ago. If you have NSF, you may have a lawsuit or legal claim against the makers of Gadolinium. WHAT IS GADOLINIUM?

Gadolinium is a paramagnetic metal ion. Paramagnetic ions, such as Gadolinium, move into magnetic fields. This makes paramagnetic ions, such as Gadolinium, useful for MRI and MRA. The Gadolinium helps doctors visualize body organs when administered for use in a MRI or MRA.
